How can mountain communities adapt to increased extreme weather events?

There is increasing evidence that extreme weather events are increasing in the Alps, the Canadian Rockies and the Himalayas and the main challenge is to decide how much of the impact is caused by weather events alone or in combination with land use changes. It is likely that land use changes are  playing a critical role in changing the hydrological conditions that results in increasing effects. We were able to cover such events and impacts in ¾ of the mountain ranges and next time we also need to include the Andes to get a complete  global cover. Risk assessment and adaptation are critical  issues because the recent events are increasing in magnitude
